Robert Heindel American Painter (1938 - 2005) Mixed Media on Vellum 22 inches (w) x 31 inches (h) When, in 2000, Heindel was invited to work for a second time with Rambert Dance Company he enjoyed the dress rehearsals of a flamboyant work 'The Celebrated Soubrette' by Javier de Frutos. As the programme notes promised 'an intoxicating journey of discovery, swathed in the gaudy glamour of Las Vegas and inspired by the larger than life American icon, Liberace! 'Blue Shoes' features the dancer Elizabeth Old who wrote 'I played a central role, as the older chorus line dancing girl who knew all the tricks but was approaching the end of her career. It was to some degree a parallel of my own life'. Elizabeth added 'it is very rare for an artist to be able to capture that degree of precision, animation and movement'.
